Jon McGowan is a Partner at Liff, Walsh & Simmons and the Director of the firm’s Business Practice Group and Real Estate Practice Group. He focuses his business practice on assisting clients in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, and general corporate matters. His real estate and finance practice touches areas of acquisition, development, leasing, and lending in the representation of buyers, sellers, and private and commercial lenders. He also counsels individuals and families to help develop custom estate plans and business succession plans that address the client’s specific needs to help protect and impart their legacy. Jon also serves as Counsel to the firm’s affiliated title company, Eagle Title.
Jon obtained his Bachelor of Science from the Helms School of Government at Liberty University, focusing on Western Legal Traditions. He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he graduated in the top six percent of his class. While in law school, Jon was an honoree of the Royal Shannonhouse Honor Society and served as a member of the University of Baltimore Law Forum and the Real Estate Law Association.
Jon is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Anne Arundel County Bar Association, Crofton Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Anne Arundel, NAIOP Maryland and Exit Planning Exchange. Jon was selected as a Maryland Rising Star Attorney from 2020-2026, as selected by peers in the legal community, and published by Super Lawyers. Since 2023, Jon has been included in the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America for his work in Business Organizations (including LLCs and Partnerships), Real Estate Law, and Trusts & Estates.
Jon grew up in Crofton, Maryland, where he and his family currently reside.
